I have never been a HUGE fan of Manny Pacquiao until I watched him get ready to walk down the ring to fight against a bigger Miguel Cotto and inevitably slay another Goliath for a 12th Round TKO to win an unprecedented 7th division title. His latest triumph catapulted him as one of the best boxers of all-time. Yes, of ALL-TIME, that’s how historic Pacquiao’s achievements are. Pretty good coming from a scrawny 106 pound Pinoy who started boxing at the age of 16, huh? (see the link below for a video by TIME on the Rise of Manny Pacquiao)

With a huge smile on his face, seemingly unfazed and distracted by the raucous full capacity crowd of 16,200 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Pacquiao walked down the ring confidently like nothing was riding on the bout that was about to commence. Miguel Cotto, on the other hand, looked like any other boxer out there with a face and demeanor that could kill. But just like all the other bigger, meaner-looking opponents of his, Manny still came out on top in the end, beating his foe with unbelievable quickness and devastating punching power.

Pacquiao bludgeoned Cotto to submission to the point that his opponent practically ran from him. And the reign of another champion ended in the 12th round via TKO as Manny raised a record 7th different division title. CompuBox actually came out with some stats that showed how lopsided the victory was. Take a look at the chart below:

And with that, Manny Pacquiao became legendary. Not because of the opponent he beat yet again, but because of holding 7 different titles in 7 different weight categories. That is unprecedented and will probably never be surpassed. And in case you’re curious where it all started, his trek began from flyweight (1), junior featherweight (2), featherweight (3), junior lightweight (4), lightweight (5), junior welterweight (6), and now welterweight (7). And Manny says this will be the last weight division for him to move up to.

It seems blasphemous to say he is as great as Ali, but when you look at his record and his unique accomplishments, he might just be. I was just a fan before this match, but now I’m glad to say that I’m part of his HUGE fan base not only because of his ability, but also because of his humility in victory and zest for life.

V 2009 is a highly-anticipated series that finally came out last week. I’ve honestly never heard of this show and it’s apparently a remake of the very popular 80’s series hit. From the very little that I know of it, it’s a sci-fi series about an alien invasion of Earth by a race of reptilians called “The Visitors.”

The cast has no real big names except for 2 of them that I know. Laura Vandervoort (Smallville/Into the Blue) and Scott Wolf (Party of Five). And for a first glimpse, the show seems pretty interesting, at least for now. This Pilot episode makes you wonder who the aliens really are and what their real intentions are. I think the cast they picked was okay enough to keep you glued to your screen so let’s see how the next episode does. It should be out tomorrow.

So now I can finally find out what all this talk from my cousins on white mice is about in connection with this series. I can imagine why, but it seems rather strange, not to mention weird, seeing Anna eat white mice, hahaha! We shall see.

House is on its 6th season and after a pretty disappointing first two episodes, they finally came up with a good one. The idea of having House “change” and become “better” has always been pretty sketchy as his sarcasm and slyness is the entire draw of the series. But from this 3rd episode, it seems it’s going to be alright after all.

The 3rd episode aptly named “the Tyrant” features the timeless James Earl Jones playing President Dibala, a seemingly ruthless ruler who has no problems killing Africans (the Sitibi, in particular) to further change. Some of these people have come to the hospital to warn House and his team and ask them not to heal the dictator. What follows is a challenge in conscience of the team as to whether it would be better for the world to cure Dibala or not. The ending was great and definitely one I never expected to happen.

On the other, more humorous side, House is being kicked out by Wilson because the resident war hero of the place named Murphy wants him out. House, in his own devious way, finds a way to “appease” Murphy with his handicap from the war and finally gets him to change his entire attitude totally.

All in all, this episode was exactly what I was waiting for from this season. James Earl Jones is always a breath of fresh air with that amazing voice of his. And it seems they finally got this episode right.  So I’m hoping this is how it’s going to go in the following episodes after. This is definitely a must-watch. The much-awaited return of the 6th season of House finally premiered last night in a 2-hour special. Episodes 1 and 2 were combined to kick the new season off where House had ended the 5th entering Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital to help fight off his addiction to vicodin and stave off his hallucinations.

Even while in the hospital, House is still up to his scheming ways as he finds ways to get the ward chief’s letter of recommendation for him to leave the place and be able to practice medicine again. He inevitably finds out that his ways are ineffective as he is up against someone who is always one step ahead of him.

He tries to “help” one of his co-patients using his typical ways but ended up almost killing him. He even almost needed someone again and realized in himself that he needed to follow the rules to be able to truly get better. In the end, he still found a way to help two of his fellow patients to finally get better and it was a fitting end to his cleansing process.

Surprisingly, all this allowed House to finally realize the wrong of his ways and actually SEEMS like he has allowed himself to be open to change. So it will be interesting to see what happens when he gets back to Princeton-Plainsboro.

There are very good performances from some notable stars like Andre Braugher (The Mist, Rise of the Silver Surfer), who played the ward chief very well and who seemed to have “broken” House, and Franka Potente (Bourne Supremacy) who was the girl House almost fell for.

All in all, it was a very good start to Season 6! I can’t wait for the next episode when he gets back in Princeton-Plainsboro to see if he really has changed his ways! You can download the 2-hour special on the torrent options below. Enjoy!

Mariah Carey’s 12th studio album to date called “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” will be released on September 25, 2009. So this is going to be an advanced preview for those who like her genre of music. It’s a 2-CD compilation, the first of which has 17 tracks, while the second features different remixes of her smash-hit “Obsessed.”

“Obsessed” was released as her first album single back in July and debuted at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. It’s actually her highest debut since 1998’s “My All,” which is pretty surprising. She said she chose to use three images for the cover art because “there are a lot of different emotions and stories revealed on this album and that there will be big ballads in it.”

Upon the actual release of the album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel” is packaged in a 3-panel softpack. A must-have for all Mariah fans, and will include: – The CD – A 2nd Enhanced CD featuring the “Obsessed” video, a remix video, and 3 remixes. Enjoy!

The rain-stricken end stage of the US Open ‘09 Semifinals finally began today but came to an abrupt end with what was one of the most peculiar losses in the history of the final Grand Slam of the Year. In a very bizarre finish, Serena Williams was penalized for verbal abuse that cost her the entire match and pushed the come-backing Kim Clijsters to the Finals.

While serving 5-6, 15-30 on her second serve, down one set already to Clijsters, Serena was called for a foot fault by the lineswoman to bring Kim to double match-point. Serena seemed relatively calm at first but suddenly walked directly to the lineswoman and started hurling expletives and pointed her racket at the fearful judge.

When she finished her tirade, the lineswoman informed the chair umpire of what the disgusted Serena had said to her and it was deemed to fall under verbal abuse. And as the rules state, you are penalized for it. And as such, Serena Williams not only foot-faulted her way to a 15-40 match point deficit, she also automatically lost the set and the match because of the verbal abuse penalty she was given. It was the second warning that cost her a point after she broke her racket earlier in the match. The final score, Clijsters over Williams in 2 sets, 6-4, 7-5, in what was just a terrible way to end a very good match-up between two of the finest players in the world.

Thus, the former US Open Champion Kim Clijsters, coming off a long layoff due to giving birth to a child, is now one step away from successfully coming back with a vengeance by moving on to the Finals facing the Dane Caroline Wozniacki, who just beat her compatriot Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium. She was also able to trump the two Williams’ sisters en route to the Finals. This should put her right back on the map in women’s tennis and I’m predicting she’s going to be the Number 1 women’s player in 2010, mark my words!
