TypeRacer: How Fast can you Type?

Games No Comments »

I’ve always loved typing games, because I think I’m a pretty fast typer :) I had this experience in a call center before, when they tested how fast we typed, and that would be a big gauge if we were to be hired. This was around 2001, and I had typed I think 95 words per minute. The instructor thought there was a glitch in the computers and had them reset. So I typed again and went for 98 words per minute. So they offered me the job… and of course, I declined.

In any case, I came across this “online” game called TypeRacer, where you are a car and there is a paragraph you need to type out. You will be competing with anyone else in the world who is typing on the same selection that you are typing on. So in the picture here, I won the race with 109 words per minute! Awesome right?? But noo, there’s a person who actually typed 213 words per minute!

So it’s pretty fun for a while, then you realize how insane it is that there are actually people who can type 200+ words per minute?!? I can’t even fathom how that is possible! So how fast do you type? Click HERE to find out and play the game :)

ooVoo: now you can see!

When online chatting became popular way back in the days of ICQ, it was a joy to be able to do the simplest things like send a file online to a friend. Now, a whole new breed of chat applications have proliferated, and there are quite a few good ones too. I have been using Skype for quite a while now for free calls outside the country along with Yahoo Messenger for chat, but it wasn’t until today that I found out about ooVoo!

ooVoo Site

ooVoo is a free, standalone desktop chat application that has both text and video chat capabilities. It can handle as many as six people in one video conference as well as a dozen in the integrated voice chat conference. Users can drop in and out of conversations, and the video windows will scale automatically.

ooVoo also doubles as a video e-mail service where users can send each other video messages as long as a minute in length that are available right in the application or via e-mail. Users who get the e-mail are also provided a link that takes them to a live Flash version of the video, so they can access it while away from their home computer.  Isn’t that cool? :)

I went to the site and tried this out and called a few of my buddies from the US and it was crystal clear. The GUI is also a sight to behold (above) as most chat applications have really ugly interfaces. This one is quite different in terms of look and feel, and I’m surprised to have just heard about ooVoo today.

The World’s Hardest Game

Games No Comments »

This actually comes from one of my favorite sites called Addicting Games. Before when I used to have a ton of time to burn, I used to visit the site often and find quite a few amusing games that you need to keep playing because you refuse to believe you can’t beat the darn level. Video game geeks like myself (before at least), have the need to prove something to inanimate games, and that is we do not lose to them! Hehe!

Impossible Game!

Here’s a new one, it’s called The World’s Hardest Game. It’s a pretty simple game, you are a red box and you need to gather all the yellow boxes on screen by navigating with your keyboard using the arrow keys and try to move to the green box, which is your beacon to the next level. The game is very enjoyable and challenging, as it tests your timing and reflexes, not to mention your patience!

Don’t blame me if you start shouting in your room because you can’t get past Level 23 like me. I was stuck in Level 10 for a while, but got to this damn level, and I probably died more than 150 times already and I still can’t even get close to finishing it. So this is just IMPOSSIBLE! If anyone can get past this level, please tell me how :(

Cloverfield 2008

Movies No Comments »

Cloverfield Poster A decapitated Statue of Liberty in the teaser poster of this movie caught my eye, as well as my curiosity. I saw the trailer before watching it though, and it seemed like another one of those “Blair Witch” type of movies where it’s all first person camera view and you’d come out of the theaters wobbly because of how dizzy you would be from all the camera movement. Surprisingly, it was pretty well done, and I would recommend you watch it for the sheer experience of it being a “different kind” of movie.

The movie starts off showing an apparent file from the US Department of Defense on the sightings retrieved from an SD card in Central Park on something called “Cloverfield.” The movie actually begins with the point of view camera held by Rob in an apartment filming up to when he gets to Beth in bed (yum :D ), thus the two main characters of the movie are born. Apparently, Rob is moving to Japan and his friends set up a surprise bon voyage party for him. His brother Jason wants no part of doing the pleasantries of getting testimonials from everyone so he coaxes Hud, played by T.J. Miller, to do it for him. Beth comes in with another guy and when Rob meets him, he goes nuts. Camera will focus on an argument outside the apartment where the party is, then the next picture is a clear fight between the two characters up to which Beth leaves in anger. Everything then starts getting turbulent when all the lights suddenly go off and everything shakes like a huge earthquake had just hit.

Cloverfield Scene 2

What follows is probably 65 minutes of video camera views starting with that huge explosion that rocked the city and there is panic everywhere. People start going to the streets wondering what has happened, then they suddenly get a glimpse of what caused the blackout. It’s a monster that’s walking around the city, seen in the picture below, destroying everything in its path. It was cool how there were black op jets dropping bombs on it and seeing the bombs explode on the monster, but to no avail. While all this is happening, Rob gets a call from Beth that she’s somewhere trapped and his phone goes dead. Buildings are falling, chaos is everywhere, and Rob goes to a shop to find battery for his cellphone just to call Beth haha! 5 of them from the party run through the streets trying to find her and finally do. She is attached to a long steel bar on her torso, so what do these guys do? They rip her off the steel bar and she miraculously runs 50+ flights of stairs down her building! What follows next, you guys will just need to watch and see.  Question after the movie you’d probably be asking yourself would be… is this a monster flick or is it a love story? :P

Cloverfield Scene

Rotten Tomatoes seems to have given it a pretty decent score considering how critical they are. And oh, J.J Abrams is the director of this movie, well known for directing a ton of great TV series like Alias, Lost, Felicity, and the Office. He said he came up the new monster idea while he was in Japan with his son promoting MI3 and wanted something like Godzilla. There are a few cool and funny things about the movie you might want to know. First, you can see the image of the monster hidden in the clouds on the upper-right hand corner of the poster. Second, take note of the time stamp at the end of the movie when Rob says his final goodbyes, because there is none (hehe). And last, after you watch the movie, you’d probably be wondering like I did, why the movie was titled Cloverfield.”

Well, your guess, is definitely going to be as bad as mine. Just follow the link below to download the file. Enjoy the monster! :)
