Prison Break Season 4 Episode 12: Selfless

TV No Comments »

Prison Break is on 12th episode called “Selfless,” as we get closer and closer to the finale for the season. Michael and the team finally get to the General and actually have an ace up their sleeves. This was by far one of the better episodes this season, as the Team finally get Scylla in their hands and deliver it to Agent Self.

Treachery has always been a staple in this series, and none worse than the one in this episode. As the General’s confidence wanes because Michael had figured out how to get all the key cards, it also went further downhill when the Team figured out who was most important to the General and held her captive. This led to their escape with Scylla and finally its delivery to Agent Self. And as the title aptly suggests… the next episode is definitely one I can’t wait to watch. House Season 5 Episode 9: Last Resort

TV No Comments »

House is on its 9th episode called “Last Resort, where a man who seeks the real explanation to his pain and illness was desperate enough to take hostages in order to get it. To put an end to the crisis, House needs to find the correct diagnosis for the man. As simple as this episode seemed, it had a much deeper message it tried to cut across to the fans.

House tried to fool the man by bringing in a fake drug that would knock him out, but the man was smart enough to test it on one of the hostages. And because of that, Thirteen had to take in whatever it was that the hostage taker had to inject in himself to find out the answer to his question. Amidst all this, House was able to convince the man that he had to give his gun up to be able to know the answer, but ended up having the wrong diagnosis. And instead of surrendering him to the SWAT team, House gave the man his gun back and put Thirteen’s life in danger. A very, very, character defining episode for both House and Thirteen.

PhotoFunia: Have Fun with your Photos

Applications No Comments »

Here’s a rather fun application that has been on the web for quite a while now. I haven’t really given it much attention since it’s quite simple, but when I saw a bunch of my officemates go nuts over how amazing it was to see such pictures, it would probably help that I show those who don’t know where they can do this :-) So if you’re one of those people who were duped and were in awe of how amazingly great in design your friend suddenly became, it’s time for them to own up! He he.

Basically, Photofunia is an online tool that allows you to paste any picture you have onto a design template. There are a lot of designs to choose from, and there’s even one with an SM Cebu billboard that you can use. One of the other templates it has is for face recognition, though it’s really rather crude and doesn’t really do a good picture transition. But for any other purpose, and if you want to surprise your friends who have never come across this type of tool, then click on the link to Photofunia and paste away!

Twilight (2008)

Movies 2 Comments »

Twilight is probably the biggest and most hyped up book-to-movie release since Harry Potter. But then again, the sudden cult following was still a big question mark in terms of how good it would actually be in the box office charts. Lo and behold, in just it’s first week, it has already grossed $69,637,740 and took over the number one slot from Quantum of Solace. What was more impressive to me is that its production budget was only $37 million while Quantum of Solace was at $200 million and it grossed THREE times more than what Quantum had done in 2 weeks. Wow. So the question is, was it really as good as advertised and worth all the cult following?

Since I have not read any of the books (nor do I plan to), the trailer of the movie had me saying how bad it would already be even before I had watched it. I thought all the hype would not only destroy whatever good would come out of the movie, but believed that it would make it utterly terrible. I was thinking more in the lines of cult fans coming out disappointed with their heads hanging and wondering why the heck they were wearing all their Twilight shirts that said “Team Edward” at the back.

Twilight is a love story between Edward, a vampire played by Robert Pattinson (who also played Cedric in Harry Potter!), who has fallen in love with Bella, a human played by Kristen Stewart. The whole movie actually revolves around their “forbidden” love affair because of what Edward is and what the consequences of losing control with Bella would mean. The other problem is the fact that there is another group of vampires, those who seek human blood, who have taken in the scent of Bella, and are hunting her as they had discovered her. The first part of the movie was rather draggy, but definitely got better when we (those who haven’t read the book, and there were very few of us) finally understood why Edward was so appalled by Bella at the start. The action picked up even more when the other brood came in and started to hunt down Bella while the family came in and protected her.

Did I like the movie? Surprisingly yes. There’s something about the mystery behind what was coming next that really peaked my interest. There was a part while watching the movie that I realized I was involuntarily squeezing my fiancee’s hand beside me when the chase scene was on, which was quite funny, hehe. There were some really disappointing parts though like the scene where James was killed. It was so anti-climactic and I kept saying to myself, “that was it?!“  But there were some really good parts like the baseball game they played in the thunderstorm and when the brood came in and found Bella. That was pretty cool.

As a non-reader of the books, it was pretty entertaining and at least I wasn’t disappointed. But for the die-hard readers, I’m not quite sure how they rated the film. I read quite a few reviews that said how the movie didn’t portray some characters the way they were described in the books. But apparently it isn’t that big of a deal. This is a correction thanks to k who commented on what was written here. Thank you :-)  I would suggest that you go watch this movie if not for the sheer curiosity of what all the hype is about. And if I would be interested in what happens in the sequel, I guess it means this first one was good enough for a second serving :-)

Personal Rating (out of 10): 6.8/10

The 8th episode of House starts with a rather peculiar case of an emancipated 16-year old girl who suddenly drops close to dead in a factory she works in. The actual story of how and why she is in her condition is rather interesting and has a real tearjerker in the end. Foreman, on the other hand, is trying to juggle two things at once. On the one hand trying to solve the mystery of the illness of the emancipated girl, and on the other hand, trying to handle his own caseload, without any help from House. The episode was okay until the ending made it more than that. A good episode this week to watch for House fans.

Prison Break is on it’s fourth to the last episode, the 11th one this season called “Quiet Riot.” Michael is in no shape to do anything and needs to have surgery otherwise he could die at any moment. But since time is of the essence and he feels the mission won’t succeed without him, he risks his life by breaking into Company headquarters with the Team. They also finally figured out how to get to Scylla and get to the actual location, but of course, this series wouldn’t be Prison Break if it were all that simple, right? Right. So watch the episode to find out how they did. It was a rather stupid ending though, so don’t get your hopes up.

And while the Team is figuring out how to grab Scylla out of Company headquarters, Gretchen tries one last ditch “schoolgirl” effort to lure the General in for her to be able to steal his key card. Quite a sick relationship there, but it all ends in this episode. And lastly, the tag-team duo of Self and Trishanne will finally hit a wall they can’t get out of. UFC 91: Couture vs Lesnar

Sports, TV No Comments »

For all the UFC fans out there, here’s a real good one for you. The main event in UFC 91 was being touted as the best heavyweight fight in it’s long history. Couture vs Lesnar definitely had that potential, though I’m rather late in bringing the news out as the main event was held two days ago on November 15, 2008. The results are already out, but I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t watched it yet. The FULL download links for all the matches in UFC 91 can be found below. The Countdown for UFC 91 was also a great preview hyping up the event, and you can also download it from the link below.

Randy Couture, at 45 years of age, is undeniably the BEST fighter ever to come out of the UFC. And even at that disadvantage, he is still pounding the daylights out of opponents much younger than himself. But this time, he goes up against a totally different breed of fighter. The former WWE Superstar known as Brock Lesnar, a 31 year old MONSTER, is out to bring down the Legend.

There have always been many Couture doubters out there, and he is always the underdog whenever he goes up against much younger and bigger fighters. But in the end, he is STILL the one holding up the belt. So the main event in UFC 91 is going to be one for the books. As Dana White (President of the UFC) said in parting, “Everybody loves the guy who is the master in coming up with game plans to beat guys that he really shouldn’t beat. Now he is up against this young amazing athlete who walks around at 300 pounds but has the agility and speed of a 150 pounder and the power of a TRUE heavyweight.” So Randy Couture has his work cut out for him, but if history is any indication, he can’t ever be counted out. But look out for the coming of Brock Lesnar, as he is out to prove that he IS the REAL deal.
